Days abroad & sea service · Android + Windows
Your days abroad, counted as you go.
Rebuilding a year from a discharge book in March is a bad plan. NRE Tracker keeps the running total — with the voyages, CDC sea service and reports that back it up. Every feature is free, with no paid version.
- Live day count against the 182-day limit
- RNOR conditions checked across eleven years
- Voyages, CDC records and a rank summary — Excel and PDF out
In development. Android from Google Play, Windows from this site. Leave your email and we write once — on launch day.

The count
The rule is simple. Applying it for eleven years is not.
Everyone knows the headline number. The trouble is the edges — which side of midnight a travel day falls on, and what the last decade looked like. These are the rules the app applies, every time, without a slip.
The travel-day convention is the one people most often get wrong by hand — and it is worth two days a trip.
| Situation | How the app counts it |
|---|---|
| Financial year | 1 April to 31 March |
| Non-resident for the year | Under 182 days present in India |
| The day you leave India | Counted as an India day |
| The day you come back | Counted as an abroad day |
| A contract that crosses 31 March | Split across both years |
| A contract still running | Counted to today — and again tomorrow |
The dashboard
Four numbers, and the one that decides.
Open the app and the current financial year is already worked out — rebuilt from your voyage dates every time, including the contract you are on now.
India days
Running total for the year, to today.
Abroad days
Every day at sea or overseas.
Days left
How long you can stay and remain under 182 — or a plain warning when it can no longer be met.
Still needed
Overseas days still to go this year, for planning the next sign-on.
RNOR
The year you come home is the one worth getting right.
Resident but Not Ordinarily Resident status depends on the years behind you, not just the one you are in. The app re-counts each of them from your own records.
- Nine of the last ten — each of the ten earlier years marked resident or non-resident, and which ones broke the run
- 729 days across seven years — one running total, near impossible to keep on paper
- Eleven years on one screen — India days, abroad days and the status for each
Not tax advice
NRE Tracker counts days and applies published thresholds to your own records. It does not file anything and cannot know your full circumstances — treat it as a well-kept notebook to take to your accountant.
The records
The day count is the output. These are the inputs.
Two registers sit behind every number — one for the tax question, one for the next job application.
Voyages
Vessel, sign-on and sign-off. Every count is worked out from this one list.
Sea service (CDC)
Vessel, rank, dates and days served — a register that matches your discharge book.
Rank experience
Total sea time and time in each rank, added up for you.
Your profile
Name, date of birth, nationality, passport, CDC and PAN — entered once, printed on every report.
Excel in
Bring in years of records at once. The app shows the exact column headings it expects first.
Excel and PDF out
Reports to work with, or to send — with your profile in the header of both.
One-tap backup to a file you keep. Restore it on a new phone, or on the Windows program, and every record comes back.
Questions
Before you install.
Is it really free?
Is this tax advice?
How does it treat the day I fly?
I have fifteen years of contracts in a spreadsheet. Do I retype them?
Does it need the internet?
Where will I get it?
Start counting from today, not from March.
Enter the contracts you remember, import the ones you don’t, and the year works itself out.
